Control your   Diabetes  with   Kairali  Ayurveda

Diabetes, often referred  by doctors as diabetes mellitus, is  a group of metabolic diseases, where the body is unable to make proper use of the sugar  resulting in  high blood glucose or blood sugar. Diabetes  is  major killer  disease  in this modern world.

 Causes of Diabetes

Diabetes  causes vary  depending   on   your   genetic makeup, family history, ethnicity, health  and  environmental factors. There is no common  cause   that   fits   every   type   of  diabetes. Diabetes   is   a   disorder of metabolism—the way the body uses digested food for energy. The digestive tract breaks down carbohydrates, sugar and starch  found   in   many foods  into glucose, a form of sugar that enters the bloodstream. With   the help of the hormone insulin, cells throughout the body absorb glucose   and   use   it   for energy. Diabetes    develops    when    the    body   doesn’t make   enough insulin   or   is   not   able   to use insulin   effectively, or both. Insulin is made in the pancreas, an organ   located    behind   the stomach. The    role   of    insulin   is   to   move   glucose from   the   bloodstream   into   muscle,   fat,   and liver cells, where it can be used as fuel.  People  with   diabetes   have   high   blood   sugar  because   their   body   cannot    move sugar   into   fat,   liver,   and   muscle   cells     to    be    stored   for    energy. This   is   because   either: their   pancreas   does   not   make   enough insulin    or  their   cells  do   not   respond to insulin   normally   or   in   some   cases   both   of   the  above.

Types of Diabetes

There are three major types of diabetes. The causes and risk factors are different for each type:

Type 1  diabetes can  occur  at  any age, but it is most often diagnosed in children, teens, or young adults. It is usually caused by an auto-immune reaction where the body’s defence system attacks the cells that produce insulin. People with type 1 diabetes produce very little or no insulin. Daily injections of insulin are needed. The exact cause is unknown.

Type 2  diabetes makes up most of diabetes cases. It most often occurs in adulthood, but teens and young adults are now being diagnosed with it because of high obesity rates. Many people with type 2 diabetes do not know they have it. It is characterised by insulin resistance and relative insulin deficiency.

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that develops at any time during pregnancy in a woman who does not have diabetes.

People can often have diabetes and be completely unaware. The main reason for this is that the symptoms, when seen on their own, seem harmless. So one needs to very careful about the symptoms as the earlier diabetes is detected the better are the chances of recovery. The most common symptoms of diabetes are: frequent urination, disproportionate thirst, intense hunger, weight gain, unusual weight loss, irritability, blurry vision , increased fatigue, more skin and/or yeast infections,  more time for healing in cuts and bruises, numbness or tingling, especially in your feet and hands and sometimes swollen and red gums.
